A different look outside and superlative tone from deep inside will be your personal happiness with this Custom OMC in Bearclaw European Spruce and complementary perfect color and grain East Indian rosewood, with the traditional squares & diamonds fingerboard inlay and optional ebony belly bridge.
Dana speaks: "Many years ago, Eric Schoenberg dreamed about having an OM with a cutaway styled after the Selmer Maccaferri guitar. I drew up something that he liked and started building, but found that I wasn't able, at the time, to make such a tight bend in the side! So I gave up and substituted the rounder version that I still use today."
The OM is a moderate-size guitar. Its unique sound results from the ratio between its 25.5" scale length, the surface area of its soundboard and the volume of its air cavity. The addition of a cutaway, therefore, is no small consideration. Harmonizing beautifully with the classic curves of the original OM outline, Dana's solution offers three additional frets of accessibility while minimally altering the OM's critical proportions.
This OMC, crafted with a European spruce top, is a fingerpicker's dream. The OMC is straightforwardly and elegantly appointed with East Indian rosewood back and sides, a wood rosette, short patterned squares and diamonds, tortoiseshell binding and gold-plated Waverly brand tuners. It also has a maple stripe on each side of the side and the back, inlaid adjacent to its gloriously pretty polished ebony body and fingerboard binding. The top is circumscribed in six plies of black and crème wood fiber purfling; the fingerboard is 14-frets to the body and 20 frets in total; the headplate sure looks like Brazilian rosewood to me (Shhhh! Don’t tell anybody.) The backstripe is a mosaic of crème, brown and black parquetry forming a Southwestern American arrowhead pattern. The neck heel is capped in East Indian and so is the end graft; there is a carved diamond dart behind the headstock and one of the squarest and most precisely angular headstock shapes at the top as one is apt to see.
Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek used his Bourgeois OMC to record most of the cuts on his CD, Let It Fall. The solo guitar piece, "Cloudbreak," is an excellent example of what the OMC is all about. An audio clip of "Cloudbreak" can be found on the Let It Fall page of the following website: www.sugarhillrecords.com. Check it out!
Except as noted, all Bourgeois models include the following features: 25.5" Scale Length, one-piece mahogany neck, none nut & saddle, ebony fretboard & bridge, high gloss body and satin neck finish, mother of pearl “Bourgeois” headstock inlay, Bourgeois premium tortoiseshell style pickguard, ivoroid bridge and end pins, deluxe hard shell case and a limited lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. Opulence, great classic beauty and an economy of style (understated visual simplicity) that other luthiers may only yearn for from afar.
