Dunn (used, 2001) Belleville Gypsy style jazz guitar

Tag No 39-1095 Used

#354, in very good plus condition with hard shell case.

About this model the maker, who hails from British Columbia, Canada, writes: “This guitar has a long scale, combined with very light gauge strings.  Django Reinhardt himself preferred this type [by which he means the vertical oval soundhole].   The instrument’s configuration results in a crisp, singing tone.  It speaks quickly and easily and responds well to a vibrato technique.  String length:  670mm (26 3/8”); medium to light density tropical hardwood back and sides.”   This example shows some normal light signs of use and wear including some small scratches, fingernail marks on the treble side of the clear pickguard, marks here and there including on the headstock, smudges and such, but all of this is light (and also normal) and it’s only cosmetic.  The guitar is structurally sound and extremely fine sounding.

This guitar is made from East Indian rosewood for the back, sides, bridge and headstock overlay with its center point, mahogany for the back of the neck and the body bindings; the rosette around the oval soundhole is made up of 21 rings (yep, 21) of multicolored wood; the top is ringed in four plies of crème and black, while the back is circumscribed in just crème.  Tuners are black chrome “Sperzel/USA.” The maker, Mr. Dunn,  provides a clear pickguard on both sides of the soundhole.  There is a wooden strap pin provided by the builder in the center of the heel of the neck and at the bottom side; its tailpiece is a style based on the original Selmer design and the bridge is three-piece, also like the famous Selmer that legendary guitarist Jean “Django” Reinhardt (January 23rd, 1910 – May 16th, 1953) used with his band, The Hot Club of France.

This guitar will make any fan of “Gypsy Jazz” smile all the way from one ear to the other ear.
