Martin (used, 2004) 00028EC Eric Clapton

Tag No 32-4229 Used

#1030079, “very good plus” condition, individual number 9771, with the original Geib Style Case

This is an extremely fine sounding eleven-year-old guitar. Everything about an Eric Clapton model is inviting. The scalloped bracing (crossing 1 ½” or so from the soundhole) makes for a sound that is both boisterous and balanced, sumptuous and sonorous. The backstripe is a mosaic of wood parquetry; the top is subdued with medium aging toner; you get as much herringbone as your family actually needs – finely featured around the face and also around the soundhole. This is a departure from the prewar to be sure but once one gets used to it, it’s rather fetching. The body bindings and heel cap are grained ivoroid which material continues as the end graft; the East Indian overlain headstock is squared, hosts the old style black bordered Martin script decal and six stalwart C F Martin logo open-gear, butterbean button tuners. The unbound black ebony fingerboard sports an expanded pattern of 7 etched diamond markers in 5 positions, including frets 5, 7, 9, 12, and 15. There are doubles on frets 7 and 12 in case you’re keeping track of such things. You get fourteen frets to the body, a 1 ¾” nut width (thankfully), a 2 ¼” bridge string spacing and a short scale of only 24.9” nut to saddle. The beveled edge pickguard is teardrop and tortoisey. The ebony carved bridge anchors six crème pins with black dots, and a compensated (rolled) saddle; the end pin matches. One interesting feature of the Eric Clapton is that it has a glossy finished back of neck (and most Martins don’t).

This previously owned modern representation of Mr. Clapton’s 1936 000-28 does show the expected indications of light normal signs of use including light pick wear near the pickguard.  There are some minor dings on the front of the headstock, a ding at the tip of the heel, very light signs of belt buckle on the back and a small finish bubble on the bottom end of the guitar near the lower bout where the ivoroid on the top meets the side.

Our repair shop has just performed our planet-prominent set-up and restring so it plays easily and feels, well . . . it feels good (leave space for James Brown shout). This guitar is exciting; hearing it being played leaves one pleased and happy. This 000-28 can be yaws for only: $2499   **NOW ON HOLD**
