This is a professional jumbo body 12-string to beat the band with, but only if
they deserve it, finished in high gloss and including the older style Onboard
Fishman Matrix Blender pickup, mic and preamp system. The back and sides are
genuine, solid mahogany and the top is selectively chosen, high level Sitka spruce with a large
number of medulary rays or cross-silking. This example looks as if it was
purchased new and then put away in a dark but well humidified closet from whence the
owner took it out only on Sundays, after church, and played it for 15 minutes (yes, a 15 minute version of "Amazing Grace") and the put it back in the case. Yes, if somebody had wonderful eyesight they might find a few tiny dings on or near the edge of the binding here and there, but it's really clean. Other than that it does resemble a guitar taken out of a properly humidified time capsule.
The headplate is straight-grained
East Indian rosewood with the gleaming Taylor script logo inlaid, the tuners are
twelve mini-Grover Rotomatics, the truss rod cover is matte finish Indian
rosewood, the fretboard jet black ebony inlaid with 8 small mother of pearl dots
in 7 positions, and the carved ebony bridge houses 12 ebony bridge pins with
pearl inlays. The Tusq bridge saddle is compensated at the B, the top is
bordered in four plies of ebony and spruce, the sides, back, heel cap, end piece
are all Indian rosewood and there is, of course, a strap pin/jack on the bottom
side and a Taylor provided strap pin in the correct place in the neck heel.
The soundhole rosette is some beautiful, exotic wood, maybe spaulted maple or
perhaps Koa. This guitar is a joy – it plays without effort, all day long, just
like elevator music, without tiring your fingers or your ears and when you plug
it into your favorite amplifier it sounds like it has suddenly become a guitar
that stands 4 stories tall and purrs.
