Weber (used, 2003) Bitterroot F-Style Mandolin

Tag No 32-4348 Used

#2116611, in excellent condition, with the original gray Weber hard shell case.

This mandolin sports tan (natural) finish, which should match your mandolin strap admirably. It presents with a carved spruce top and mahogany back, sides, neck and headstock.   The headstock is capped with ebony and has the “Weber” logo and Celtic knot in ivoroid.

CONDITION:  There is a light pick scratch located on the side of the bass side f-hole and there is a pair of small dings on the back of the headstock scroll.  On the side of the fingerboard, where the neck meets the binding, there is some extremely light blistering in the finish.  Otherwise the mandolin is in “excellent” condition.

The good people at Weber Mandolins tell us that the Bitterroot is Montana's state flower, whose fleshy roots were used extensively as food by the Indians, Lewis and Clark, and the mountain men that followed. Additionally, the Bitterroot Mountains follow the border between Idaho and Montana. They say on their website: “Bring your talent and enjoyment of music to any setting, and let the Bitterroot do the heavy lifting. [We think this might be a mixed metaphor.] The playability of our radiused fingerboard and the bluegrass muscle of our tone-bar braced, aged spruce top combine with a traditional look to create the best and most affordable (and customizable) workhorse mandolin on the planet.”

They also told me that they wanted you to know that the body size is Traditional F, the top is hand-graduated and tuned solid spruce, the sound holes are f-holes; the bracing is hand scalloped spruce tone bars; the back/ribs/neck are mahogany; the peghead veneer is f style shape - unbound and ebony; the peghead inlay is mother of pearl 'Weber' script and yes, there is a knot; the fingerboard is black bound ebony and radiused; the scale length is of course 14 inches; the nut width is 1 1/8”; the fret markers are mother of pearl diamonds, the frets (they said you’d want to know this) are .080 nickel-silver, the truss rod is dual action and adjustable; the body binding is ivoroid – on the top only, the color natural; the finish is matte; the components include a cast Weber stainless steel tailpiece and nickel-plated Grover tuners; the bridge is traditional Brekke bridge; and the case is Weber’s gray exterior deluxe hard shell plush lined.
