Weber (new) Gallatin A Mandocello

Tag No 32-3453 New

#1326609, in light "faded leather" finish with hard shell case.

Stunning natural looks highlight the Gallatin, named after the river that ran right outside the Weber Company’s door back when they were near Bozeman. Beloved by musicians of all varieties for its punch, clarity and playability, the Gallatin is an innovative instrument with traditional integrity.

Gallatin Mandocello Specifications are as follows:  Body Type - Traditional A; Neck Wood is solid Mahogany; its  top is hand-graduated and tuned solid spruce; the back and sides are comprised of solid wood; the back and sides are mahogany.  The mandolin’s finish/color is called “faded leather” and the material used is satin nitrocellulose lacquer.   Its radiused fingerboard is ebony and it is bound in black.  It has 24 frets, a nut width of 1 5/8 inches; it is equipped with high quality nickel-plated Grover tuners, a cast “Weber” stainless steel tailpiece.    Dimensions:  at the lower bout the width is 14 1/8”, the body length 18 ½”, the body depth is 3 ¾”.  The string gauges chosen for this model by Weber are:   .074, .048, .034, and .022.

In the interests of full disclosure we must reveal that a reeking pustule of mephitic goo visited our showroom and, unbeknownst to us, put some marks on the treble side of the top - in a very small area - adjacent to the strings, from a fingernail or something.    If Weber had built this cello with a pickguard this wouldn't have happened.   Needless to say we are repulsed and angry, but we know not upon whom to wreak revenge.   As a result, you will receive a further discount.

Nothing we have seen comes closer to reproducing the sound and appearances of a mandocello that the famous Kalamazoo Company that produced – i.e., they never made a long-neck teardrop shaped mandocello with f-holes that sounded, in modern terms, very much similar to a Lloyd Loar K-5 mandocello.    The sound and appearance of this instrument will amaze you in every way possible.    Think about it!  The possibilities are endless.

The Weber List Price is $2799.
