    There are few banjo styles as well regarded or as beautiful in their simplicity as the prewar B&D Silver Bell No. 1.  Silver Bell was the highest numbered series in the B&D banjo line.   This one has the scalloped headstock design, the flowery headplate that is inlaid with many pieces of mother of pearl forming wreaths and branches and leaves and flourishes with the words “B&D,” and then “Silver” and then “Bell” in large pearl script.

    The soprano ukulele, often called "standard" in Hawaii, is the smallest and was the original size. The concert size was developed in the 1920s as an enhanced soprano, slightly larger and louder with a deeper tone. Shortly thereafter, the tenor was created, having still more volume and deeper bass tone. The baritone was created in the 1940s.

    This handsome instrument shows light pick wear on the face on the treble side with light crazing on the bass side (and below the bridge).   If you really need to know, it overall shows very light signs of playing wear – which includes a small amount of dings and nicks.   The diminutive yet welcome tiple is an instrument we just don’t see stop by our exotic digs very often. And we loves them, we does.

Fine-grain Sitka spruce top, tropical mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck. Classic (i.e., no inlays) black ebony fingerboard. Marc makes all his own bindings and purflings, and this instrument is bound in Brazilian Rosewood. Bridge is Brazilian Rosewood with compensated bone saddle and ebony bridge pins with pearl dots. Tortoise pickguard installed.
